The hit from childhood: shrink plastic from old packaging.
Some of them still know them from their childhood days: the funny pieces of jewelry that can be made from shrink plastic. How fun it was to watch the foil in the oven, how it first curled up, then got smaller and smaller and finally “ended” as a tiny, hard piece of plastic. Bring back a piece of your childhood! The funny shrinking effect also works great with waste.
For this you need:
- Clean plastic packaging waste (e.g. sushi boxes) – Pay attention to a small number in a triangle (usually on the underside of the box): The trick works best with 2 and 6.
- colored permanent markers
That is how it goes:
Before you can process the packaging waste, you need to clean it thoroughly. Then you cut out the bottom of the packaging or the parts that have as flat a surface as possible.
You can print out funny patterns of motifs from the Internet. You should note that the molds will shrink by up to 70% later in the oven. You put the printouts directly under the plastic so you can take a break. First you draw the outline with a waterproof black pen.
Then you color in the rest of the design and punch holes on the top. You can attach the trailer through this hole later. Now cut out the pendant along the edges. Caution: Do not cut away the hole, but cut around it.
Bake the tags in the oven preheated to 165 ° C for two to three minutes. Don’t worry: the plastic will contract and pucker in the heat, but that’s perfectly normal. In the end it will be smooth again.
Now the plastic is not only much smaller, but also thicker and more stable. With the help of split rings, you can now attach the pendants to a piece of jewelry of your choice.
Whether it’s funny sweets, fast food, characters or favorite quotes in the form of jewelry: only your own imagination sets the limits. The jewelry can also be used for keys or as a gift tag. They are also a fun idea if you are looking for a quick tinker for the next children’s birthday party.
